A great article from Adage caught my eye today called “How to make Better Radio Ads“.
Radio added 3 million listeners in 2008, amassing a weekly audience of 235 million people, according to the Radio Advertising Bureau’s annual RADAR report. Yet the original ad-supported broadcasting medium lost ad revenue year over year, declining 9% in 2008 to $19.5 billion, according to the RAB.
According to the article, most campaigns don’t focus on Radio as central to their campaign.
The article does reveal some advertisters who have used radio exclusively (like Motel 6) and positioned themselves differently than “national chains” (who usually use TV) by using radio.
I enjoyed the “question and answer” aspect of this article – with answers coming from ‘bigtime’ Creatives at DDB, Ogilvy and Mather, BBDO and Crispin Porter and Bogusky.
